The Childhood of Túrin
The essence of Morgoth's power, and the domain of his influence. The term was used especially by Men, as a reference to the nameless Darkness that lay in their ancient past. At that time, when Men were newly awakened in Hildórien, Morgoth went to them and brought many of them under his power. Others fled westwards, hoping to leave their ancient dread of the Dark far behind them, only to find Morgoth awaiting them in Angband at the end of their journey.
