Deeping-stream

The stream of Helm's Deep

The stream that rose in the gorge of the White Mountains known as Helm's Deep. It flowed through a culvert in the wall that guarded that refuge of the Rohirrim, and then around the feet of the rock where the Hornburg stood, before beginning its journey into the wide lands of Rohan.

Notes

1

The outflow of the Deeping-stream is something of a mystery. From the Deeping-coomb, it's described as flowing out into the Westfold Vale to the north, but there's no reference or map hinting at the stream's ultimate destination. Given the geography involved, it most likely turned westward and flowed into Isen, the nearest river of any significance. Alternatively, it might - just possibly - have followed a much longer eastward or northward course into Entwash.
