The name used by the Woses of Drúadan Forest for Ephel Dúath, the Mountains of Shadow that marked the western border of Mordor. From the forest, the mountains lay close by, some fifty miles to the eastward across the Anduin, so they were prominent on the eastern horizon. Thus for the Woses, the Sun always rose from behind the East-mountains, something that they were aware of even when it could not be seen (as when the Storm of Mordor covered it on the Dawnless Day).
