River Limliht

An older name of the River Limlight on the northern border of Rohan, from which its more familiar name derives. The etymology of this river's name is confusing, not least because it seems to have been only partially translated from Sindarin into the language of the Rohirrim. Some sources suggest that Limliht was the original Sindarin name, whereas others hint that Limliht was rather the version used by the Rohirrim. All these variations ultimately derive from the Elvish for 'swift-light', and translate into the modern English form of the river's name, 'Limlight'.
