Also called Loëndë, the day that fell in the middle of the year was an important feature in many of the calendars of Middle-earth. On a modern calendar, Mid-year's Day would be 22 June.

The celebration of Midsummer was widespread, and practised by peoples across Middle-earth. The festival was widely known simply as 'Midsummer', or as Loëndë in Elvish, but the term 'Mid-year's Day', though it may plausibly have been used elsewhere, is specifically recorded only in the Shire Calendar used by the Hobbits.
