West March

Doriath beyond Sirion

The main area of the kingdom of Doriath was comprised of the two great central forests of Beleriand, Neldoreth and Region. These lay to the east of Sirion, but across the river to the west, directly north of Aelin-uial, was the small forest of Nivrim. This formed the West March of Doriath, and was included within the Girdle of Melian, so that a small part of the flow of Sirion fell within the power of Thingol. Doriath also had a comparable East March beyond Aros on the other side of the kingdom, a small forest known as Arthórien.
