A shortened form of the name Tar-Calmacil, referring to the King of Númenor also known in Adûnaic as Ar-Belzagar. He was a strong military leader, and a proponent of the movement known as the 'King's Men', favouring a break from the earlier traditions and policies of Númenor. On his death, the royal Sceptre passed to his son Tar-Ardamin.

Earlier editions of The Lord of the Rings omitted Calmacil's son Tar-Ardamin from the list of the Rulers of Númenor, giving the impression that Tar-Calmacil was succeeded by his grandson Ar-Adûnakhôr. This was an oversight, and other sources give the correct line of succession from Tar-Calmacil to Tar-Ardamin, which has been incorporated into later versions of the book's Appendices. |
