When Gwindor led Túrin to his home of Nargothrond, Túrin hid his true identity, and gave himself the name Agarwaen. His prowess with his black sword Gurthang soon gained him a new name: the Mormegil, the Black Sword. Túrin became a champion and military leader in service to Nargothrond's King Orodreth, but as the great Captain of Nargothrond his leadership proved ill-judged. The armies of Orodreth were defeated at the Battle of Tumhalad, and the bridge that he had constructed across Narog allowed the Dragon Glaurung to enter and sack the stronghold of Nargothrond itself. Nonetheless Túrin himself escaped the destruction, and was tricked by Glaurung into a purposeless journey back to his old homeland of Dor-lómin while Orodreth's daughter Finduilas was carried away by the Orcs.
