Cormallen on the banks of Anduin (marginally speculative)2
The region of North Ithilien that stood on the east bank of Anduin, opposite the island of Cair Andros. This land was famous for the culumalda trees (laburnums) that grew there, and from those it took its name (which means 'ring of gold'). Within the land of Cormallen, near the banks of the Great River, was an open sward known as the Field of Cormallen, and it was there that the overthrow of Sauron was celebrated after his defeat in the War of the Ring.

The 'gold' of Cormallen's name came from the yellow-flowered culumalda trees that grew thickly in this region. The name meant 'ring of gold' because of the riverside Field of Cormallen, an open space surrounded by the golden trees. Indeed the name Cormallen seems to have originated in reference to the Field of Cormallen, and then been extended to describe the entire region of Ithilien in which it lay.

Though the location of Cormallen is not explicitly mapped, we know that it was on the eastern bank of Anduin, and opposite the island of Cair Andros, so there is little doubt of its general geographical location.
