Deathless Lands

The Undying Lands beyond the Great Sea

A name for Aman, the lands of the Valar in the Uttermost West of the world, where the Two Trees had once grown. Soon after their awakening many of the Elves had crossed the Sea to dwell in the Deathless Lands, and now dwelt in their own cities among the Valar and Maiar.

Valar, Maiar and Eldar were all alike in being accounted the Deathless; they were not subject to mortality, ageing or sickness, and thus the lands in which they dwelt were known as the Deathless Lands or (more commonly) the Undying Lands. They were separated by the Great Sea from Middle-earth, the Mortal lands, which, over the course of the Third Age, became increasingly dominated by Mortal Men.
