A tree that grew in Gondor; little is known of it, except that it was generally dark or black in colour, and beloved by the woodworkers of that land. The staves given by Faramir to Frodo and Sam were made of lebethron wood, as was the casket in which he brought the Crown of Gondor to the coronation of Aragorn.

Most sources agree that the name lebethron comes from Sindarin leben, 'finger', with the full name deriving from leben orn, 'finger tree'. The significance of this name is not explained; it is perhaps a reference to the way that the twigs grew on the tree's branches.
