Crown of Gondor

The jewelled helm of the Gondorian Kings

The tall jewelled and winged helm that served the Kings of Gondor as a crown. After the loss of the last King, Eärnur, it was held in the Houses of the Dead for nearly a thousand years, until a rightful heir came forward at the end of the Third Age.

The Crown belonged variously to members of different branches of the House of Elendil. As Elendil's elder son and heir, it was Isildur who originally wore the Crown (and indeed it originated as his war-helm). When Isildur was unexpectedly lost in the Disaster of the Gladden Fields, the rule of the South-kingdom fell on the descendants of Isildur's younger brother Anárion, and remained in the House of Anárion for more than two millennia. With the return of the King at the end of the Third Age in the form of Aragorn Elessar, direct Heir of Isildur, the Crown of Gondor reverted to its original line, the House of Isildur.
