The youngest of the three sons of Gormadoc 'Deepdelver' Brandybuck of Brandy Hall. His two elder sons were Madoc (who went on to inherit the title Master of Buckland) and Sadoc. Like his brothers, Marroc founded a strong branch of the Brandybuck family that gave rise to many descendants, though the details of the lineage he founded are nowhere recorded.
Notes
1 |
The Lord of the Rings gives no specific dates for Marroc's birth or death, but an earlier version of the Brandybuck genealogy (in volume XII of The History of Middle-earth) gives his year of birth as 1182 by the Shire-reckoning. This is consistent with the known dates of Marroc's elder brothers Madoc and Sadoc.

The name Marroc is never explained, but as forenames in the Brandybuck family typically follow Welsh in form, it may be an anglicisation of the old Welsh name Meuric or Meyric, combining words for 'fame' and 'power'. |
