Shadow
The shroud of darkness
A term that apparently refers to the bewilderment and darkness accompanying certain enchantments. The term is also associated with the land of Lórien and with the Ents. The strongest association of Shadow, though, is with Sauron and his powers: not only did impenetrable Shadow physically surround his Dark Tower of Barad-dûr, but Sauron himself, and the power of darkness he commanded, were often referred to figuratively as 'the Shadow'.
