Barad Eithel was built at Sirion's sources; Minas Tirith stood in the Pass of Sirion, and a refuge was built at the Mouths of Sirion during the later First Age

Sirion had its source at Eithel Sirion in the Mountains of Shadow, though the Vale did not begin until the river flowed through the Pass of Sirion somewhat to the south

Sirion’s Vale

The shallow lands that lay either side of Sirion, more commonly called the Vale, or Vales, of Sirion. They ran roughly north to south, and separated East and West Beleriand from one another. Though in principle the name 'Sirion's Vale' might apply to any part of the long river valley, our only recorded use of the term applies it to the lands between Doriath and Brethil, running southwards from the inflow of Teiglin as far as Aelin-uial.
