Tar-Atanamir the Great

The mighty thirteenth King of Númenor

Rulers of Númenor

The thirteenth King of Númenor, surnamed the Great (for his wealth and power, rather than his wisdom). He treated the Men of Middle-earth cruelly, and he was the first King to speak openly against the Ban of the Valar.

Notes

1

The name Atanamir contains atan-, 'Man' in the general sense of a human being, and -mir, usually translated 'jewel' but extending to mean any precious or valued thing. Names ending in -mir were common among the Dúnedain (with especially notable examples being Boromir and Faramir).
