Anárion
The younger son of Elendil
The second son of Elendil and younger brother of Isildur, who came to Middle-earth with his father from Númenor, and was slain in the Siege of Barad-dûr.
Notes
1 |
The date of Anárion's birth appears only in The History of Middle-earth volume XII, The Peoples of Middle-earth. It cannot therefore be considered completely reliable. |
2 |
Tolkien provides no explicit derivation for the name Anárion, so 'Sun-son' is a little speculative. The name of Anárion's brother Isildur means approximately 'devoted to the Moon', so the implication is that Anárion's name refers to the son of Elendil dedicated to Anar, the Sun. |
