The only son of Ancalimë and Hallacar, who became his mother's Heir after she became Númenor's first Ruling Queen. His parents became estranged soon after his birth, and he seems to have been brought up in an oppressive atmosphere. He had three children of his own, with the first two being daughters. Either of these might have succeeded as Númenor's ruler, but both refused the Sceptre, apparently for fear of the formidable Queen Tar-Ancalimë. So, after Anárion himself became King as Tar-Anárion, his son and third child, Súrion, became his Heir.
Note that this Anárion is not to be confused with the rather more famous Anárion, the son of Elendil, who was one of the founders of Gondor. That Anárion was born in Númenor centuries later, and survived its Downfall.
