Buffo Boffin is the earliest known member of the populous Boffin family of Shire-hobbits. He and his wife Ivy Goodenough had four children, of which only one, the youngest, was a girl. This was Berylla, born in the Shire-year 1172 (or III 2772, that is, two years after Smaug descended on Erebor far to the east, though of course such events remained unknown in the Shire.)
Berylla married Balbo Baggins, the patriarch of the Baggins family, and together Berylla and Balbo were the ancestors of all the more famous Bagginses of later years. They had five children, three sons and two daughters (Mungo, Pansy, Ponto, Largo and Lily) and each of these established a family of their own. Through her eldest son Mungo, Berylla was the great-grandmother of Bilbo Baggins, and through her fourth child Largo, she was also the great-great-grandmother of Frodo, who became Bilbo's adopted heir.

We do not know exactly how long Berylla lived, but she was definitely extant until III 2822 (when Lily, her fifth and last child, was born).
