A member of the Proudfoot family, Bodo married into the Baggins clan when he wedded Linda Baggins. Linda was a younger sister of Bilbo's father Bungo, and so, through his marriage, Bodo was Bilbo's uncle. Bodo and Linda had a son, Odo, and through him founded a branch of the Proudfoot family that stretched on for at least three generations.
Notes

We have no definite dates for Bodo's life. The dates shown here are those for his wife Linda Baggins, on the assumption that Bodo would have been her close contemporary, though of course it's extremely doubtful that the two would have been born or died in exactly the same years.

Bodo is a real Germanic name, attached to several minor figures from history. It comes from a root word meaning 'command', and is usually translated as 'commander'. It can also be taken to have a subsidiary meaning at times, as 'messenger' (specifically a messenger who delivers orders from a commander), or even 'angel' (in the sense of a divine messenger).
