Linda Baggins

One of Bilbo Baggins’ aunts

The younger of the two daughters of Mungo Baggins and Laura Grubb, Linda was the sister of Bungo Baggins. She was thus one of Bilbo Baggins' four aunts (two from the Baggins side, including Linda, and two from his mother's Took side). Linda married Bodo Proudfoot, and they had one son, Odo, from whom a line of the Proudfoot family descended into the Fourth Age.

Notes

1

There is another theoretical possibility as an origin of Linda's name, the Quenya word linda ('beautiful'), but this seems unlikely to be the actual source. No other Baggins has a name derived from any Elvish language, and the Germanic source for the name is far more in keeping with Tolkien's translation scheme for Hobbit-names than the archaic Elvish language.
