A ship sailed by the great Númenórean mariner Vëantur, who was Captain of the King's Ships in the time of Tar-Elendil, Númenor's fourth King. Its name comes from the Elvish for 'The Return', referring to its famous voyage eastward to Middle-earth. Entulessë was the first Númenórean vessel to make the journey back across the Great Sea, nearly six hundred years after the island kingdom of Númenor had been established.
According to the histories of Númenor, Vëantur sailed the ship into the harbour of the Grey Havens in the spring of II 600. Gil-galad was still King in Lindon at that time, and Vëantur remained in his land for some months. As the year turned to autumn, Entulessë set sail once again, beginning the long journey home to Númenor.
Notes
1 |
The only definite date we have for the Entulessë is that of Vëantur's famous voyage to Middle-earth, setting out in II 600 and returning the following year. Though Vëantur may have made further voyages aboard the Entulessë, his next recorded voyage to Middle-earth was aboard a different ship, the Númerrámar in II 725. It thus appears that the Entulessë was decommissioned (or otherwise taken out of service) during the century after its great voyage.

Entulessë is never specifically linked to Rómenna, but we know that that port city was the chief shipyard in Númenor, and also that it was Vëantur's home base, from which he sailed in other vessels, and where he kept records of his voyages. On that basis, it would seem remarkable if the Entulessë were to have been berthed anywhere other than Rómenna.
