The mighty golden-sailed ship of the Númenórean explorer and navigator Vëantur. It was Vëantur who first achieved the sea-journey back from Númenor to Middle-earth. That first voyage was made aboard a ship named Entulessë, but for his later journeys Vëantur sailed aboard Númerrámar, taking with him his grandson Aldarion (who was also the grandson of King Tar-Elendil), and so inspired a love of the Sea that lasted throughout Aldarion's life. After Vëantur's retirement, he granted Númerrámar to Aldarion as a gift, and the ship made at least two more journeys to Middle-earth with Aldarion as its captain.
Notes
1 |
We know that Vëantur travelled to Middle-earth aboard this ship shortly before II 725, but the exact date is unclear. Aldarion then made two further journeys to Middle-earth as the captain of Númerrámar, returning from the second in the year II 739. After that point the ship is never mentioned again.
