Fathers of the Númenóreans

A name for the Edain

A title used of the Men of the Three Houses of the Elf-friends, the first of their race to enter Beleriand in the First Age, who allied themselves faithfully with the Elves they found there. They fought alongside the Eldar against Morgoth, and as a reward the Valar created a new home for their surviving descendants: the isle of Númenor amid the Great Sea. Thus the Edain gave rise to the Dúnedain - Edain of the west - and were the ancestors of the Númenóreans.
