A rare name for the region that lay north of the White Mountains between the rivers Isen and Anduin. It was originally a province of Gondor named Calenardhon, but after the Men of the Éothéod rode to the aid of the South-kingdom in III 2510, Steward Cirion gifted the region to Eorl and his people. Over time, these people became known as the Rohirrim or Horse-lords, and their kingdom as Rohan, the land of horses. From that day the Kingdoms of the Rohirrim and of Gondor remained staunch allies and fought in many wars together through the centuries that followed.
