The Land of Caranthir, or Dor Caranthir (slightly conjectural)

A wide region to the east of Beleriand, between the river Gelion and the Blue Mountains on the borders of Eriador, originally known as Talath Rhúnen (the East Vale). When the Sons of Fëanor came to Middle-earth, they claimed lands in the northeastern parts of Beleriand, and Talath Rhúnen was occupied by Caranthir, Fëanor's fourth son. He settled by the shores of Lake Helevorn in the north of this land, and after that time the region acquired a new name, Dor Caranthir, meaning simply 'the Land of Caranthir'.
