A form of address used of the rulers of Gondor, at least during the last years of the Third Age. In The Lord of the Rings, it most commonly applies to Denethor II, the Steward at the time of the War of the Ring. There is also a single case where Denethor's father Ecthelion II is named 'Lord of Gondor', but the title is not otherwise used. This might, just possibly, imply that 'Lord of Gondor' was a device used only by the later Stewards. More probably, though, the title was used of all the Stewards, and perhaps the Kings who preceded them, but we have no direct evidence of this usage.
For full lists of all those who might have qualified for this title, and genealogical charts, see the entries for King of Gondor and Ruling Steward.
