"...I should be free to wed whom I will; and that would be
Úner (which is "Noman"), whom I prefer above all others."

Unfinished Tales Part Two II
Aldarion and Erendis
Ancalimë was the Heir to King Tar-Aldarion of Númenor, for whom the laws of succession were changed to allow her to become the first Ruling Queen. After witnessing the estrangement of her parents, and being raised in seclusion, she affirmed her preference not to marry: as she put it, her favoured husband was 'noman'. However, her royal duty prevailed, and ultimately she wedded Hallacar of Hyarastorni and produced an Heir of her own, who would succeed her as King Tar-Anárion.
Notes
1 |
The entire purpose of Ancalimë's 'Noman' was that he did not exist, so naturally he did not have any dates of birth or death. The dating shown here and on the timeline therefore reflects Ancalimë's own lifetime instead. We don't have a specific date for her use of the name 'Noman', but she went into seclusion in II 892 and married in the year II 1000, so her announcement that she would wed 'no man' must have taken place at some point during this period.
