A name for the Vales of Anduin, the wide shallow valley that ran north to south through Middle-earth from the far north to the Ethir Anduin in the distant south. The term applies especially to the regions between Lórien on the west and Greenwood the Great (or Mirkwood) on the east (and indeed those forests are together called the woods of the Vale of the Great River).
