Mirkwood
Greatest of the forests of Middle-earth
A name of Greenwood the Great, the mighty forest that lay in the lands east of the Great River Anduin. The name Mirkwood was used of this forest after Sauron, in his guise as the Necromancer, took up his abode at Dol Guldur in its southern regions.
