The sole recorded member of the otherwise unknown Diggle family of Shire-hobbits, who became part of the Bolger family when she married Gundahar Bolger. The wedding took place sometime close the beginning of the thirteenth century by the Shire-reckoning (that is, the twenty-ninth century of the Third Age). Dina and Gundahar had two children, Adalgar and Adaldrida, and many descendants. Among numerous family connections, Dina was one of the great-great-grandmothers of Frodo Baggins.

We have no specific dates for Dina Diggle; those shown here are for her husband Gundahar Bolger. They are therefore unlikely to be exactly correct, but Dina's lifetime was presumably comparable with that of her husband.

We have no explicit explanation for the pronunciation of the name Dina, but the 'dee'na' given here follows the rules of Elvish and also seems relatively natural. Dina is not an Elvish name, however, and other alternative pronunciations are possible (for example, the name might plausibly be pronounced like the English word 'diner').

As a modern name, 'Dina' tends to come from a shortening of various different longer names (though it can also derive from Hebrew Dinah meaning 'judged'). It is unclear whether any of these origins are intended to apply to Dina Diggle, or whether her name represents a usage peculiar to the Shire-hobbits.
