The sister of Fredegar 'Fatty' Bolger, Estella married Merry Brandybuck sometime after his return from the War of the Ring. Almost nothing is known about her apart from her date of birth: 1385 by the Shire-reckoning.
Estella was a very late addition to the canon. So late, in fact, that Tolkien did not include her in Merry's genealogy until after the First Edition of The Lord of the Rings had been published. This late change took many years to be incorporated in all versions of the book, so that many extant copies are missing Estella's name altogether.

IV 63 (or S.R. 1484) was the year that Estella's husband Meriadoc Brandybuck left the Shire with his friend Peregrin Took. In that year, we're told that Meriadoc passed the title of Master of Buckland to his heir, and that he did not return to the Shire. Estella herself is not mentioned in the account of his departure, which suggests that Meriadoc was a widower by this time. Estella would have been ninety-nine years old in IV 63, so her death before this date seems plausible, and indeed it might have been the reason that her husband Meriadoc felt able to leave the Shire.
