After Wulf's invasion of Rohan, Helm Hammerhand and the people of Rohan were besieged by the Dunlendings in Helm's Deep. At this time, Helm had already lost his elder son Haleth, who had remained behind to defend Edoras and had fallen in battle there. Helm's younger son Háma had escaped to the Deep, and sheltered there with his father and the people of Rohan.

The siege of Helm's Deep lasted into the Long Winter, and the Rohirrim began to starve. In desperation, and against King Helm's command, Háma led out a group of men to raid the camps of the Dunlendings. They were lost in the snows, and so ended the last direct heir of Eorl the Young, and the first line of the Kings of Rohan.

Notes

1

All we're told for sure about Háma's death is that it took place during the Long Winter of III 2758 to III 2759. However, we are told that he was lost while seeking supplies after Yule, which implies that he met his end during the early days of the year III 2759.
